Long before “ Qatargate ”, the Somali entrepreneur and politician was one of the first “ whistleblowers ”. As early as 2015, he had discovered curious EU practices in a deal with Somalia. The message he is once again delivering to Brussels is clear: business relations between Europe and Africa must be improved in order to start afresh on new bases.
For European issues, things are becoming ever more important and have more resonance in Brussels where both the European Parliament and the European Commission sit as well as all the institutions and administrations of the Union.
It is therefore “ in the heart of the EU ” that Abshir Aden Ferro – surrounded by his two French lawyers – came to carry iron and deliver a message that could not be clearer. What the “ Qatargate ” – updated on the occasion of the last Football World Cup – revealed about “ certain practices ” in progress in Brussels, within the various European bodies, is not really new.
Boss of the company ” Fort Roche ” (established in Great Britain for more than twenty years, very active and recognized in the field of security), the Somali entrepreneur, who has made the “fight against corruption ” his fight politics, has made the bitter experience of it. In his own country, of course, where corruption is endemic, as he wrote in his autobiographical book ” My Life for Somalia “ (*), but also at the other end of the chain – in Brussels for example – so true is it that there can be no ” corrupt ” without corrupters.
“ My group has also brought a lawsuit seven years ago when a security contract was awarded in Somalia and is appealing in cassation in order to have certain habits in Brussels that are more than reprehensible recognized and judged. I can testify to this ”, he recalls from the outset, qualifying this affair as a real “ Somaliagate ” whose unmasked instigators will have to answer for their actions as for “ Qatargate ”.
In this latest scandal smearing the institutions of the EU, the European Parliament had immediately decided to put an end to the functions of Vice-President of the Greek socialist deputy Eva Kaili caught in the act of proven acts of ” corruption ” with more than 150 000 euros found at her home and she is still in prison on remand. ” It’s time to clean the stables of Augeas “, MEP Raphaël Glucksmann then launched in session
At the opening of this press conference in Brussels, M e Xavier Argenton , his counsel for the Paris Bar, recalls the genesis of the facts: ” Mr Abshir Aden Ferro was approached to be part of a group preparing to respond to a call for tenders launched by the European Union (more precisely, the European External Action Service), the EU wishing – after several years of absence – to establish itself in Mogadishu, in Somalia” .
With the aim of building near Mogadishu airport (on land graciously donated by the Somali authorities) a huge, highly secure “ compound ” to protect all United Nations officials and soldiers stationed in the Somali capital.
