Egypt and Denmark have signed the extension of a strategic energy sector cooperation and technical aid agreement, according to a cabinet statement on March 13th.
The agreement was penned by Egypt’s Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker and the Danish Ambassador to Cairo Svend Olling, in presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederikse.
As per the signed amendments, the agreement shall be extended to a period of five years instead of three, with the aim of giving additional time to both parties to conduct the activities listed in the previously signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) in July 2020.
Shaker said that the agreement aims at creating a platform to facilitate documenting strategic cooperation between the Egyptian governmental institutions and their Danish peers in the field of energy.
He added that a joint program will be developed through which a strategic sectoral dialogue between Egypt and Denmark will be held to accelerate the pace of green transformation and support Egypt’s plan to increase the supply of electricity generated from renewable resources to 42% by 2035.
